Top 5 Things to Avoid During Interview.

 Interview Tips- Resume Jar

Job search is a stressful and tiring process. We all are scared of facing an interview. Sometimes we succumb to the pressure and nervousness. As a consequence we do not give our 100% during the interview.

It would be advisable for those looking out for a job to be well-prepared to face the interview. Interview is more of an interaction where you showcase your skills and achievements to sell your skills.

We all know interview can be a deal-maker or deal breaker. Most of the interviewees are exhausted because of multiple interviews and job search process. However, it is highly recommended that you follow the following guidelines. This will increase your chances of getting a job and best performance.

Freeze Up:

I came across a candidate few years ago, his resume was excellent and portrayed a very professional image. But when I met him for the interview he seemed to be very frightened and quiet. Due to his nervousness he didn't speak much, would only answer to the questions with occasional nodding. He barely maintained an eye contact and asked any question. It is imperative for someone to perform best during interview. Freezing up during interview gives out a negative signal and forces the interviewers to re-consider their decision of offering a job. Their biggest challenge is to determine if you can perform during work pressure since you are unable to perform during interview. The remedy for this is to practice interview as much as possible, go through common interview questions and answers.

Dominate:

There are people whom I have come across during Interview who try to dominate and hijack the interview process. This is something which comes across as unprofessional and very impolite. I cam across a candidate who had done his homework very well and as soon as he entered the interview room started talking without stopping. Although what he spoke was valuable but this left no room for me to speak. We all need to understand that Interview is a two way process/communication. Only person talking is not a healthy sign. There are people oozing with confidence and knowledge but they need to coach them self about interview practice. If you're in a curious mindset, you'll be much more likely to listen, and the interview will be a dialogue vs. a monologue.

Be sloppy

Different companies have different dress codes. It is better to do little research and understand the dress code of the company you are visiting. You may visit the company website to understand about its work culture and gain some insight on the dress code. Having good personal hygiene - clean hair, showered, nails trimmed - and clean, unwrinkled clothing. This is much more important than whether you're a little over-dressed or under-dressed. When someone comes to an interview looking like he or she has just rolled out of bed. This communicates lack of respect for the interviewer, the job and the company.

Being late to the interview:

Showing up late is far worse then being early and bored. This leaves a very bad impression about the candidate and no one wants to hire someone who is late for the interview. Being late also implies that you do not respect and value someone's time. It is better to possibly do a dry run to the interview venue than compared to being late on the day of the interview.

Dont be Yes Person:

Sometimes in desperation we tend to agree with everything that the interviewer says, and this gives a negative impression about the interviewee. It's okay to disagree at times. Many organizations do appreciate candidates who disagree because when someone disagrees that means they have their own opinion or view point. Anyone who disagrees should also know that we have to work together in an organization and this behavior of disagreement and working together shows team spirit
